My Bio

Threads on the floor

mary kay davis

I began sewing as a child.  Just like everyone else I made clothes for my dolls.  As I got older my mother had me take a few sewing lessons.  Even though she was a wonderful seamstress, I noticed that I began to make more and more of her clothes.  My mother was a very smart woman.

I didn't begin quilting until around 1996 when I walked into our neighborhood quilt shop and decided to take a "quilt-as-you-go class."  I took it very literally and thought I had to have the whole thing finished by the end of four classes.  I used templates, hand pieced, hand appliqued, machine appliqued and hand quilted that quilt by the end of the session.  I am surprised I ever quilted again.

Of course, I caught the quilting bug.  I made a quilt for brother's 40th birthday.  I made donation quilts for the schools and the American Cancer Society.  I designed the guild's opportunity quilt.  You get the picture.

Today I work in that quilt shop where I took that first class.   I enjoy designing patterns and entering quilt shows.  I have a wonderful husband, two great boys, and a silly black labrador that tolerate all of the threads on the floor.
